Ian Howarth

MA, LPC

503-370-8050 x 119

My professional journey began as a treatment technician and addictions counselor, where I refined my skills in guiding individuals through recovery. I transitioned into mental health counseling, contributing to both county mental health services and as a pastoral counselor within the local church. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for individuals navigating their unique struggles.

I furthered my education through additional training in marriage and family counseling, specializing in trauma, stress management, and family dynamics. In my practice, I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Before joining Salem Pastoral Counseling Center, I worked as a mental health chaplain at the Boise VA Hospital within a residential PTSD facility. There, I provided spiritual support and counseling services, in collaboration with other mental health and medical providers to veterans, aiding in their healing journey. This experience deeply shaped my commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by veterans, and it continues to be an integral part of my professional background.
