Philosophy and Approach

I operate from the assumption that individuals and families are doing the best they can and may require assistance in creating the positive changes they want for their lives and relationships. You can expect our meetings to be collaborative, meaning you and I will work together to identify issues, goals, and possible solutions. My aim is to enter into a partnership of mutual acceptance and trust with each client in order to find tools for individuals to help themselves in reaching their optimal health and wellbeing. I believe that change should be driven by your own values and will do my best to operate within your beliefs.

Typically I provide short-term therapy, meaning three to six months of sessions. I employ multiple family therapy techniques as well as Cognitive-Behavioral interventions and rely often on my training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Areas of Concentration

While I have experience in many diverse areas, I often focus my work on adolescents, families, and adults. I am particularly familiar with oppositional behaviors, child and parent conflict, and phase of life changes. Additional areas of knowledge include depression, grief and loss, anxieties, AD/HD, health and medical concerns, relationship issues, and spiritual exploration.

Credentials and Education

I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Calvin College as well as a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Previous experience has included in-home family therapy, community-based inner city Chicago casework, emergency department psychological screening, and hospital-based patient advocacy in Dearborn, Michigan.

As a licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers, I am required to abide by its Code of Ethics as well as engage in continuing education to maintain my credentials. My license number is 4736.
