Approach to
Counseling
I am a trained marriage, family and
individual therapist. My approach to counseling is heavily
influenced by “family systems” theory which emphasizes brief,
problem solving counseling, with a focus on the individual in the
context of their family or social system--family of origin, marital
family, or general relationship system. As a Pastoral Counselor, I
am both a trained marriage and family therapist and an ordained
clergyperson in the Church of the Brethren. I am a “Fellow”
in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and
subscribe to the Code of Ethics of that organization.
As a licensee of the Oregon State
Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I will
abide by its Code of Ethics.
Education
I hold the degree of Doctor of
Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the School of Theology at Claremont,
California. My area of study was Pastoral Counseling with an
emphasis in marriage and family counseling. In addition, I hold a
Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) from Bethany Theological
Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. My major area of study in my
Master’s program was pastoral care and counseling.
Continuing
Education
To maintain my license, I am
required by the state to participate in annual continuing
education. I participate in classes dealing with subjects relevant
to this profession. I may substitute professional consultation for
part of this requirement. I will be happy to explain what that
entails and how it relates to you as my client.
Fee Schedule
Fees for counseling services are
$95.00 per hour of counseling. An adjustment in fees is possible in
cases of need and when discussed in advance with the counselor.
